Kilowatt- hours are actually what your energy retailer charges you for. Let’s say they charge you 30 cents per kilowatt-hour.

Watts on the other can be a little confusing as appliances use watts. Electricity can be thought of much like water, so instead of electricity coming out of wires, think of it as water coming out of a tap – it’s the same principle.

Imagine that a jug represents one kilowatt-hour, so when its full of water, you owe your energy retailer 30 cents. An LED lamp uses 10

watts, which is the tiniest dribble. It’s not much, but we have five so that increases somewhat. So, whilst the dribble has increased, it’s going to take some time to fill up the jug. The longer we leave the lights on, the more jugs we’re going to fill over the period of a year.

Now the toaster uses about 600 watts of electricity, so the water will come out of the tap quicker but it’s used for a very short time. It won’t fill up the jug as much. But a high efficiency, moderate- sized split system uses the same power. So, if you use one of those to heat your home, and have it for a few hours, we are going to fill up one or two jugs by doing that.

The other thing that fills the jug is standby power such as the internet router and the clocks in appliances, these are on 24/7, so that will continue to fill jugs throughout the year.[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section][et_pb_section fb_built=”1″ _builder_version=”4.4.7″ background_image=”https://batman.automationagencydev.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Insider-Secrets-Bottom-BG.jpg” width_tablet=”” width_phone=”” width_last_edited=”on|desktop” custom_margin=”50px||||false|false” custom_padding=”60px||60px||false|false”][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.4.7″ custom_padding=”0px||0px|||”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.4.7″][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.4.7″ text_text_color=”#ffffff” text_font_size=”30px” text_line_height=”1.2em” text_orientation=”center” max_width=”90%” max_width_tablet=”” max_width_phone=”” max_width_last_edited=”on|tablet” module_alignment=”center” text_font_size_tablet=”24px” text_font_size_phone=”20px” text_font_size_last_edited=”on|tablet”]We’ve got all your DIY energy efficiency project needs, visit ecoMasterStore.com.au[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]
